Call for residents’ parking permits in Marton
People in Marton are calling for a new permit scheme in a bid to rid Marton of nuisance parking.
There have been numerous complaints about parking issues in the area, which has seen careless motorists leaving roads clogged up and forcing local people to leave their vehicles long distances from their homes.
The residents’ calls are being backed by Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, Will Goodhand.
He recently carried out consultations with people living in Marton and says parking concerns came out as one of the biggest issues.
Mr Goodhand says he will now ask Middlesbrough Council to consider a residents parking permit scheme across Marton.
“Local people have been telling me about their parking issues across Marton and their struggles to ensure that parking spaces and roads are not clogged up with people from outside the area parking,” he said.
“Particular issues have been raised about vans parking overnight or for a couple of days in residential areas stopping residents from parking near their homes.
“This is also an issue near the Marton shopping area where some residents are being blocked into their drives by careless parkers.
“I will speak to Middlesbrough Council to seek a solution to the issues and whether we can establish a permit scheme so people can always find somewhere near to home to park, especially for those without garages or driveways.”
Mr Goodhand has had many reports of pot holes across Marton and is reporting them to Middlesbrough Council which has just been awarded £178,607 of extra Government funding to deal with this issue.
